Now that a full generation has passed since the creation of many of the Sam Records titles, producers have emerged who are not trying to mutate the elements of disco into something that sounds like house or hip hop, but rather take the best elements of the tracks & update them for the current nu-disco loving crowds that are becoming a major element of nightlife. Producers like Todd Terje, Soul Clap, Catz ‘n Dogz & Maxxi Soundsytem have taken seminal tunes like Gary’s Gang/Keep On Dancing, Vicky D/The Beat Is Mine & remixed or edited them into hits that have the same effect as it did 30yrs ago

Oscar G – BEATS

» April 17, 2012

The journey into Beats gets underway with a classic vocal dropped over the banging house chops of “Fallin.” Oscar then brings it back to Miami for a lesson in tribal with “Agua Bendita” before trippin’ through the warped world of “Sabroso” and twisted pop of “I Play U Out.” Next, the big room classic vocal track “Music Takes Me Higher” leads into the rubbery, dark and driving “Cha Cha Cha” before “Work” and “Hypnotize” brings out the smile we had when hearing tracks like Josh Wink’s “Don’t Laugh” for the first time. “NYC” is an ode to Oscar G’s second home and built around the great house music vibe the city’s known for. What would a great vocal house album be without at least one track talking about love? “Don’t Give Up” is for those who want to dance away their relationship problems.
